They Shall Be My Jewels — Trusting Was the Natural Thing to Do

Wednesday, June 10, 2026 · Evening
📍 Brioux-sur-Boutonne, France
"'They shall be Mine,' says the Lord of hosts, 'on the day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.'"
Malachi 3:17 · NKJV
✦ James Smith · Daily Remembrancer · They Shall Be My Jewels

Who shall be His jewels? Those who fear the Lord and think upon His name.

Those who fear to offend Him because they love Him. Who desire above all things to obey Him, be conformed to Him, and glorify Him.

Those who think upon His name, "Our Father," and believe Him to be gracious, merciful, long-suffering, abundant in goodness and truth.

✦ Not the Impressive Ones

Smith names the jewels — and they are not the ones the world would choose. Not the powerful. Not the eloquent. Not the theologians or the institution builders. The ones who fear to offend Him because they love Him. The fear that MacDonald described — not the cringing fear but the fear of doing wrong to the One who loves. The fear that drives the soul to God, not away from Him.

And the ones who think upon His name — Our Father. The name that took years to speak. The name that the mustard seed of faith grew into. The name that means: I am not alone. I am not an orphan. I belong to Someone who calls me His own. 🙏

✦ From Le's Heart · Brioux-sur-Boutonne · June 10, 2026

There is safety in fearing the Lord and standing up for what is right. That is indeed their strength. 🙏

✦ Pastoral Note

Le names the principle that governs both the pilgrim and the institution: standing for what is right is the source of strength, not the result of it. The fear of the Lord — the refusal to compromise what is true — is not a burden. It is the ground the soul stands on. The trust follows the integrity, not the other way around. Whether a woman before dawn with her Bible or a company in San Francisco building AI — the path is the same. Stand for what is right. The strength is in the standing.

✦ Smith · They Shall Be Mine

Who approach Him as children; who walk before Him, desiring to do everything as under His eye; who are jealous of His honor, and concerned for His glory.

Who speak of His goodness, talk of His power, and adore the riches of His grace.

"They shall be Mine, says the LORD of hosts." He will treat them as children, prize them as His jewels, and acknowledge them before assembled angels.

He will put a difference between them and others, and will manifest Himself to them as He does not to the world.

✦ From Le's Heart

It is sweet to my heart to hear: "They shall be Mine, and I will treat them as children."

I remember being a child, and trusting was the natural thing to do. 🙏

✦ Pastoral Note

Le hears God say they shall be Mine and I will treat them as children — and her heart goes back to childhood. Not to theology. Not to doctrine. To the memory of what it felt like to trust without trying. The child does not study trust. The child does not practice trust. The child does not read a book about trust. The child just trusts. It is the natural thing to do — when the Father is trustworthy.

And this is what the whole journey has been about — from the midnight hospital to Brioux-sur-Boutonne. Not the acquisition of more theology. Not the mastering of deeper doctrine. The return to childlike trust. Murray called it simple, childlike, unbounded. MacDonald said the simplest mysticism is the noblest. Smith says God will treat them as children. And Le remembers: trusting was the natural thing to do. The mornings before dawn are the returning. The evening readings are the remembering. And God says: they shall be Mine.

"I remember being a child, and trusting was the natural thing to do."

Trusting Was Natural

Le remembers being a child — when trusting was the natural thing to do. The whole journey is a return to that. Not more theology. Not deeper doctrine. Childlike trust. The simplest and noblest kind.

They Shall Be Mine

God will treat them as children. Prize them as jewels. Acknowledge them before assembled angels. Manifest Himself to them as He does not to the world. They shall be His.
