With our regeneration we become heirs to a glorious spiritual estate. "Heirs of salvation!" "Heirs of the kingdom!" "Heirs together of the grace of life!"
It is "incorruptible" — beyond death. "Undefiled" — beyond sin. "Fadeth not away" — beyond change. "Time does not breathe on its fadeless bloom."
All the steps in salvation are "ready." No caprice. No defect. No lack. At every step "all things are ready."
Three words build a fortress: incorruptible, undefiled, unfading. Death cannot touch it. Sin cannot stain it. Time cannot dim it. The apartment is corruptible — packed and left. But the inheritance is kept in heaven. And the preparations: all things are ready. Every step from the new birth to the full corn in the ear — ready.
Mercy implies sympathy. Sympathy suggests the choicest companionship. If our God enswathes us in great mercy, He visits in the sweetest fellowships.
In the redeemed life there can be no loneliness, for in the Father's presence all loneliness is destroyed.
The breaking up of His grave means the breaking up of man's winter, and the soft approach of the eternal spring.
That Life which in death defeated death is the dynamic of the regenerate soul, and makes the life invulnerable.
Mercy unfolds: sympathy, companionship, no loneliness. The mercy is the companionship. The companionship is the dynamic. The pilgrim packing boxes is not alone.
And the resurrection — the breaking up of His grave means the breaking up of man's winter. The eternal spring approaches. The winter of the old nature, the "if," the wrong thinking — broken by the same power that broke the grave.
The "power of God" defends me, hems me in, and secures me from every assault. My Father's power is my garrison.
"As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about His people."
The land that stretches before us is glorious. The power to possess it is equally glorious. They may both be ours "by faith."
The righteous will live by faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
The garrison does not require the soldier to fight. The garrison fights for her. The mountains do not move. The Lord does not move. The attacks come — and the garrison holds.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for. The land before us is glorious — Brittany, the new chapter. The power to possess it is equally glorious. Both received by faith. Not by sight. Not by "if." By faith.
The righteous shall live by faith. The living is now. The faith is now. The garrison holds now. And the inheritance — incorruptible, undefiled, unfading — is kept in heaven for the soul who lives by faith on earth.
"The land that stretches before us is glorious. The power to possess it is equally glorious. They may both be ours by faith."
