The Lord's Prayer — In This Manner, Therefore, Pray

Saturday, July 26, 2026 · Midday
📍 Caldas da Rainha, Portugal
"In this manner, therefore, pray."
Matthew 6:9 NKJV
✦ The Lord's Prayer · Matthew 6:9–13 NKJV

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen.

✦ Our Father — Not My Father

The prayer begins with two words that change everything: Our Father. Not my Father. Our. The prayer is never private — even when prayed alone. Every soul that prays this prayer joins a family. The orphan becomes a child. The stranger becomes a citizen. The immigrant finds a household.

In heaven. The Father is near — Guyon's day thirty: you will find the Lord at all times near your heart. But the Father is also transcendent — in heaven, above, holy. Near enough to hear. High enough to save. 🙏

✦ Hallowed Be Your Name

The first petition is not a request for something. It is worship. Before bread, before forgiveness, before deliverance — hallowed be Your name. The soul that prays rightly begins by forgetting itself and remembering who God is.

Jowett's whiteness from day one with 1 Peter: we looked for sweetness — He showed whiteness. Le's word from July 22: be holy because He is holy, no other reason. The first word of the prayer establishes the order: His holiness first. Everything else follows. 🙏

✦ Your Kingdom Come — Your Will Be Done

Your kingdom come. Not my kingdom. Not my plans. Not my timeline for France or September or the next chapter. Your kingdom. The surrender is total — not because the pilgrim's desires are wrong, but because the King's kingdom is better.

Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. In heaven, the will is done perfectly, instantly, joyfully. On earth — in Caldas da Rainha, in the testing season, in the packing — the will is done with effort, with trust, with the daily suppleness Guyon described. The prayer asks for earth to become like heaven — not in comfort but in obedience.

Spurgeon's chariot of providence from day thirteen: the axle is infinite love, the driver is gracious wisdom. Your will be done is the prayer of the passenger who trusts the driver. 🙏

✦ Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

This day. Not tomorrow. Not next month. Not September. Today. The prayer asks for one day's supply — because one day is all the soul needs to manage, and one day is all the Father promises at a time.

Spurgeon's day eleven: stay at home and feast on Jesus. The daily bread is not only physical. It is the Word — Le's morning reading, the chapter a day, the moment of God. The bread that feeds the body and the bread that feeds the soul — both daily, both sufficient, both from the Father's hand.

Consuelo's giving from day twelve with Spurgeon: give, and it will be given to you. The daily bread is received — but it is also shared. The full reservoir overflows. The daily bread becomes daily giving. 🙏

✦ Forgive Us — As We Forgive

The most dangerous petition in the prayer. Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. The measure of the forgiveness we receive is the measure of the forgiveness we give. The 500 denari soul knows this better than anyone — forgiven much, loving much. Luke 7:47.

The soul that has been forgiven 500 denari cannot withhold forgiveness from the one who owes fifty. The receiving and the giving are bound together. The prayer does not allow the one without the other. 🙏

✦ Deliver Us from the Evil One

Do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. The prayer acknowledges the reality of the enemy — the same enemy Spurgeon described on day eight: the triumph of grace when the work of Satan is completely undone.

Spurgeon's day eight: safety in conflict. Not immunity from attack — deliverance in the midst of it. The prayer does not ask to avoid the battle. It asks to be delivered through it. The arrows fly. The shadow of the Almighty covers. Psalm 91:1. 🙏

✦ For Yours Is the Kingdom

The prayer ends where it began — with God. Not with our needs, not with our forgiveness, not with our deliverance. With His kingdom, His power, His glory. Forever.

The prayer is a circle. It begins with Our Father and ends with Yours is the kingdom. It begins with worship and ends with worship. Everything in between — the bread, the forgiveness, the deliverance — is held inside the worship.

A recompensa de Deus é o próprio Deus, e somente Ele. The prayer begins with God and returns to God. The reward of the prayer is the One to whom it is addressed. 🙏

"In this manner, therefore, pray."

The Lord's Prayer. The prayer Jesus taught His disciples when they asked: Lord, teach us to pray (Luke 11:1). Not a formula to recite but a manner to follow — in this manner, therefore, pray.

The order of the prayer: God first, then needs, then God again. Worship — petition — worship. The prayer teaches the soul to begin with the Father's holiness, move through the day's needs, and return to the Father's glory. The needs are real. But they are held inside the worship, not outside it.

The journal's prayer: Le's mornings follow the same order. She begins with the Word — hallowed be Your name. She receives the daily bread — the chapter, the reading, the moment of God. She forgives and is forgiven — the 500 denari soul. She is delivered — through the testing season, not around it. And she ends where she began — with God.

Guyon's closet and the prayer: Day one: enter the closet, retire within the heart. The Lord's Prayer is the prayer of the closet — the secret place of the Most High, Psalm 91:1. The soul enters the closet, prays Our Father, and finds itself in the presence of the One who sees in secret and rewards openly (Matthew 6:6).

Consuelo's letter and the circle: A recompensa de Deus é o próprio Deus, e somente Ele. The prayer begins with God and returns to God. The reward of the prayer is God Himself. The daily bread is given. The forgiveness is given. The deliverance is given. But the greatest gift is the One to whom the prayer is addressed — Our Father, whose kingdom and power and glory are forever. 🙏
