✦ The Mountain Obeys the Word
Jesus does not say the mountain might move. He does not say the mountain will move eventually. He says: whoever says to this mountain, "Be removed" — and does not doubt — will have whatever he says. The mountain obeys the word of faith. Not the word of effort. Not the word of argument. The word spoken without doubt in the heart.
The condition is not the size of the faith. It is the absence of doubt. Does not doubt in his heart. The heart — not the mind, not the circumstances, not the evidence of the eyes. The heart that believes without doubting speaks, and the mountain moves.
James 1:6 — let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. James and Jesus teach the same lesson: the doubter is a wave. The believer is a voice — and the mountain hears the voice. 🙏
✦ Believe That You Receive
Whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them. Not believe that you will receive them someday. Believe that you receive them. Present tense. The receiving happens in the believing — before the evidence arrives, before the mountain moves, before the answer is visible.
Hebrews 11:1 — faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. The substance is already there. The evidence is already real. Faith holds the answer before the answer appears. The prayer of faith does not wait for confirmation. It receives in the act of asking.
Spurgeon's day ten: test Him — test Him! He will never break His promise. And Jesus here: believe that you receive. The testing and the receiving are the same posture — presenting the promise to the Promiser and holding it as done before it is seen. 🙏
✦ The Mountains in Scripture
Matthew 17:20 — "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."
Matthew 21:21–22 — "If you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
Luke 17:6 — "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you."
✦ Mustard Seed — Not the Size but the Life
A mustard seed — the smallest of seeds. Jesus does not ask for great faith. He asks for living faith. The mustard seed is tiny but it is alive — and the living seed grows into the largest of garden plants. The faith that moves mountains is not measured by volume. It is measured by life.
Nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17:20. Yesterday Le said: all things are possible with God — not some things, all. And Jesus confirms: nothing impossible. The mustard seed of living faith, spoken without doubt, addresses mountains — and mountains obey. 🙏
✦ The Context — Prayer
Jesus speaks these words in the context of prayer. Mark 11:24 — whatever things you ask when you pray. The mountain-moving word is not a magic formula. It is a prayer. The faith that moves mountains is faith expressed in conversation with God — asking, believing, receiving.
The Lord's Prayer from July 26: Your will be done. The prayer of faith is not the imposition of human will on God. It is the alignment of human faith with God's will. The mountain moves not because the believer is powerful but because the believer is aligned — speaking what God has already decreed, believing what God has already promised, receiving what God has already given. 🙏
John 14:13–14 — "Whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it."
John 15:7 — "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you."
1 John 5:14–15 — "This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him."
✦ According to His Will — The Key
John's epistle holds the key: if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. The prayer of faith is not a blank check. It is a check signed by the King — and the King only signs what aligns with His purposes.
The mountain moves when the prayer aligns with the will. The receiving happens when the asking flows from abiding. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you — then the asking is shaped by the abiding, and the desire is shaped by the Word. The soul that abides asks rightly. The soul that asks rightly receives. And the mountain that stands between the promise and the fulfillment — moves. 🙏
