Mark 11:23 — He Shall Have Whatsoever He Saith

✦ Verily — The Weight of the Word

For verily I say unto you. Jesus begins with verily — the Greek amēn, the same word that closes every prayer. When Jesus opens a sentence with amēn, He is saying: what follows is as certain as the faithfulness of God. This is not a suggestion. It is not a possibility. It is a decree sealed before it is spoken.

The French captures it: Je vous le dis en vérité — I say it to you in truth. The truth is the foundation. The promise rests on the character of the One who speaks it. 🙏

✦ Whosoever — No Exceptions

Whosoever. Not the apostles only. Not the prophets only. Not the pastors or the theologians. Whosoever. The word opens the promise to every soul that believes — the patriarch and the harlot, the scholar and the child, the preacher and the pilgrim parked among olive trees in Pedreiras.

James 2:23 — Abraham was called the friend of God. James 2:25 — Rahab the harlot was justified. Whosoever includes both. The promise is not gated by qualification. It is gated by faith — and faith has no pedigree requirement. 🙏

✦ Shall Say — The Speaking Is the Action

Shall say unto this mountain. Not think about the mountain. Not worry about the mountain. Not study the mountain. Say. The word is spoken. The mouth gives voice to what the heart believes. The speaking is the action of faith — the moment the interior belief becomes an exterior declaration.

Romans 10:10 — with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. The heart believes. The mouth speaks. The speaking and the believing are partners — one inside, one outside, both required.

"Car c'est en croyant du cœur qu'on parvient à la justice, et c'est en confessant de la bouche qu'on parvient au salut."

✦ To This Mountain — Specific, Not Vague

This mountain. Not mountains in general. Not all obstacles abstractly. This mountain. The specific one in front of you. The one you can name. The one that blocks the road today.

The Caldas apartment was this mountain. The car sale was this mountain. The move to France is this mountain. Faith does not address vague difficulties. Faith names the mountain and speaks to it directly. "Be thou removed." Not a wish. A command — spoken by the one who does not doubt. 🙏

✦ Shall Not Doubt in His Heart

Shall not doubt in his heart. Jesus locates the doubt — and the faith — in the heart, not the mind. The mind may have questions. The circumstances may look impossible. The eyes may see the mountain still standing. But the heart does not doubt.

Proverbs 3:5 — trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. The understanding may waver. The heart must not. The heart is the seat of faith — and the seat of faith must be undivided.

"Confie-toi en l'Éternel de tout ton cœur, et ne t'appuie pas sur ta sagesse."

Le's word from July 24: the heart is the right instrument for receiving what the mind cannot explain. The doubt lives in the understanding. The faith lives in the heart. And the heart that does not doubt — speaks, and the mountain moves. 🙏

✦ But Shall Believe — The Turning Point

But shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass. The word but is the turning point. On one side — doubt. On the other — belief. There is no middle ground. The heart is either doubting or believing. The mountain responds to whichever one is present.

Hebrews 11:1 — faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. The substance is already real. The evidence is already present. The believing is not the hoping that it might happen. It is the knowing that it shall come to pass — because the One who said "verily" does not lie.

"Or la foi est une ferme assurance des choses qu'on espère, une démonstration de celles qu'on ne voit pas."

The French says une ferme assurance — a firm assurance. Not a tentative hope. A firm assurance. The faith that moves mountains is not soft. It is ferme — firm, settled, unshakable. 🙏

✦ He Shall Have Whatsoever He Saith

The final clause — the promise: he shall have whatsoever he saith. Not some of what he says. Whatsoever. The word is as absolute as the whosoever that opened the verse. Anyone who believes. Anything that is spoken in faith.

Le's word from July 21: when He says anything, that's what He means. And here Jesus says whatsoever. Anything means anything. Whatsoever means whatsoever. The promise is not qualified. The promise is not partial. The promise is as large as the faith that speaks it — and the faith is as large as the God who stands behind it.
