We are parked near the olive trees. 🫒🙏
The third evening on the open road. The Benimar at an olive oil estate — near the olive trees. And David's psalm of rest: I will lie down in peace, and sleep. The pilgrim among the olive trees — guarded by the One who alone makes the dwelling safe.
No notes tonight. The peace speaks for itself.
"There are many who say, 'Who will show us any good?' Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us."
"Plusieurs disent: Qui nous fera voir le bonheur? Fais lever sur nous la lumière de ta face, ô Éternel!"
Psaume 4:7 · Louis SegondThe world asks: who will show us good? David's answer: the light of Your face. La lumière de ta face. The good is not a circumstance. The good is His face.
Le testified: nothing is more precious than His presence. Not what He can do — who He is. David said it three thousand years ago: the good is the light of Your face. The face is the presence. The presence is the good.
"You have put gladness in my heart, more than in the season that their grain and wine increased."
"Tu mets dans mon cœur plus de joie qu'ils n'en ont quand abondent leur froment et leur moût."
Psaume 4:8 · Louis SegondMore. Plus de joie. The gladness from God is more than the harvest. More than the apartment check. More than the car money. Fénelon's pure love. Consuelo's summit: A recompensa de Deus é o próprio Deus. The reward is greater than the harvest.
And the olive trees tonight — the ancient symbol of God's gladness. Psalm 45:7: the oil of gladness. The oil from the olive. The gladness from the pressing. Gethsemane means "olive press" — where the greatest gladness was pressed from the greatest suffering. The pilgrims sleep among the trees that bear the oil of gladness. 🫒
"I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety."
"Je me couche et je m'endors en paix, car toi seul, ô Éternel! tu me donnes la sécurité dans ma demeure."
Psaume 4:9 · Louis SegondThe most beautiful bedtime prayer in Scripture:
I will lie down. Je me couche. In peace. En paix. And sleep. Je m'endors. The sleep of the pilgrim whose yoke is easy and burden is light.
For You alone make me dwell in safety. Toi seul, ô Éternel! Not the apartment — sold. Not the car — sold. Not four walls. You alone. The dwelling is not the building. The dwelling is God. The safety is His presence.
Psalm 91: he who dwells in the secret place. Psalm 16: in Your presence is fullness of joy. Psalm 4: You alone make me dwell in safety. Three Psalms. One truth. The dwelling is not a location. It is a Person. And the Person is with the pilgrims — among the olive trees — on the open road to France.
"I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever."
"Et moi, je suis dans la maison de Dieu comme un olivier verdoyant, je me confie dans la bonté de Dieu, éternellement et à jamais."
Psaume 52:10 · Louis SegondI am like a green olive tree in the house of God. Comme un olivier verdoyant. Green. Alive. Bearing oil. The pilgrim among the olive trees — green, trusting in the mercy of God forever. Éternellement et à jamais.
Not for a season. Not until France. Forever and ever. The green olive tree, trusting forever, resting among its own kind. 🫒🙏
"I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety."
Psalm 4:8 · Lagar de Azeite Casa Féteira · Pedreiras · August 22, 2026 · Among the olive trees — the dwelling is not a location, it is a PersonThe Light of His Face
Who will show us good? The light of His countenance. The good is His face. The presence is the good.
The Olive Trees
Gladness more than grain. The oil of gladness. Gethsemane — gladness pressed from suffering. The pilgrims sleep among the trees.
Lie Down in Peace
Not anxiety. Not worry. Peace. The sleep of the pilgrim whose burden is light.
You Alone
You alone make me dwell in safety. Not the apartment. Not four walls. You alone. The dwelling is a Person.
