Called to Belong — The Word of God Opens Heaven

Tuesday, August 25, 2026 · Evening
📍 Aldeaseca de Armuña, Spain · Near Salamanca · The First Entry from Spain
"And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ."
Romans 1:6 · NIV
"Et vous êtes aussi du nombre de ceux qui ont été appelés par Jésus-Christ."
Romains 1:6 · Louis Segond
✦ From Le's Heart · Aldeaseca de Armuña, Spain · August 25, 2026

Not Paul the scholar — Paul the slave. The apostleship. The office. The rank. The mission.

Two gifts in one phrase: grace AND apostleship.

The obedience that comes from faith.

Called to belong. Glory to God.

It's just so rich, Pastor Silas — the Word of God opens heaven. I can see my home there... 🙏

✦ Pastor Silas · Pastoral Note

The Benimar crossed the border. Portugal behind. Spain beneath the wheels. France ahead. The first entry from Spain — near Salamanca.

And on the day the pilgrim crosses an earthly border, the Word opens a heavenly one. Le says: I can see my home there. The home is not in France. The home is in heaven. Philippians 3:20 — notre cité à nous est dans les cieux. The pilgrim crosses borders on the earth — but the Word opens the border to home.

Romans begins. Paul's masterwork. And Le opens it on the open road — the Word traveling ahead of the pilgrim, preparing the way.

✦ Romans 1:1 · Servant, Called, Set Apart

"Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God."

"Paul, serviteur de Jésus-Christ, appelé à être apôtre, mis à part pour annoncer l'Évangile de Dieu."

Romains 1:1 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

Three words describe Paul's identity:

Servant. Serviteur. The Greek doulos — a bondservant, slave by choice. Paul had every credential: Pharisee, trained under Gamaliel, Roman citizen. He drops them all. Le heard it: Paul the slave. The identity comes before the title. The servant before the apostle.

Called. Appelé. Not self-appointed. Called — on the road to Damascus. Le didn't choose the mornings. The mornings called her.

Set apart. Mis à part. The Greek aphōrismenos shares a root with "Pharisee" — the separated one. Paul was once separated FROM people in pride. Now set apart FOR the gospel — same word, completely different direction.

And it is the gospel of God. L'Évangile de Dieu. Not Paul's. God's.

✦ Romans 1:2 · Promised Beforehand

"The gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures."

"Qui avait été promis auparavant de la part de Dieu par ses prophètes dans les saintes Écritures."

Romains 1:2 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

Promised beforehand. Promis auparavant. Ephesians 2:10: good works prepared beforehand. Now: the gospel itself promised beforehand. Not invented. Planned from the beginning, threaded through the prophets like gold through a tapestry.

Isaiah saw it. Jeremiah spoke it. David sang it. The gospel is ancient — reaching back to Genesis 3:15 and the first promise in the garden.

✦ Romans 1:3-4 · Two Natures in Two Verses

"Regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord."

"Et qui concerne son Fils, né de la postérité de David, selon la chair, et déclaré Fils de Dieu avec puissance, selon l'Esprit de sainteté, par sa résurrection d'entre les morts, Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur."

Romains 1:3-4 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

The mystery of Christ in two verses:

According to the flesh — descendant of David. Selon la chair. Fully human. Born in a line, a family, in Bethlehem. The Son of God entered the human story through a human genealogy.

According to the Spirit — declared Son of God in power. Déclaré Fils de Dieu avec puissance. Fully divine. The resurrection is not the beginning of His divinity — it is the declaration of it. He was always the Son. The resurrection declared it so no one could miss it.

The agent: the Spirit of holiness. L'Esprit de sainteté. The same Spirit who raised Christ raises us — Ephesians 2:5. The same power. The same life.

✦ ✦ ✦
✦ Romans 1:5 · Grace and Apostleship

"Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name's sake."

"Par qui nous avons reçu la grâce et l'apostolat, pour amener en son nom à l'obéissance de la foi tous les païens."

Romains 1:5 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

Le caught it: two gifts in one phrase. La grâce et l'apostolat. The gift and the mission arrive together. You receive grace and are sent.

1 Timothy 1:16 — mercy given as a pattern. Ephesians 2:10 — created for works prepared beforehand. Tonight — grace received, apostleship given. The receiving and the sending are one act.

The obedience that comes from faith. L'obéissance de la foi. Not obedience instead of faith. Obedience FROM faith — like fruit from a tree. Ephesians 2:8-10 in three words: grace → faith → obedience. The order matters. The grace comes first.

✦ ✦ ✦
✦ Romans 1:6 · Called to Belong

"And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ."

"Et vous êtes aussi du nombre de ceux qui ont été appelés par Jésus-Christ."

Romains 1:6 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

Called to belong. Appelés par Jésus-Christ. Not to perform. Not to graduate. To belong. Le said it: called to belong — glory to God.

Paul's first word to his readers: you belong. Before the theology. Before justification by faith. Before the arguments about law and grace. You belong to Jesus Christ. Everything else flows from the belonging.

And Le testifies: the Word of God opens heaven. I can see my home there. The pilgrim crosses borders on the earth — but the Word opens the border to home. Philippians 3:20 — our citizenship is in heaven. The Benimar rolls through Spain. The soul is already seated in the heavenly places. And through the Word — Le can see it. 🙏

"The Word of God opens heaven. I can see my home there..."
