O Mundo Está Insuportável — Mas Jesus É Vitorioso Sobre o Mundo

📍 Henvic, Finistère, Brittany · Finis Terrae — The End of the Earth
"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."
Romans 8:18 · NKJV
"J'estime que les souffrances du temps présent ne sauraient être comparées à la gloire à venir qui sera révélée pour nous."
Romains 8:18 · Louis Segond
✦ From Le's Heart · Henvic, Finistère · September 5, 2026

The earnest expectation.

O mundo é insuportável.

The world is a beautiful plate — I can say it after visiting so many places. But human sin has a different view. They serve money.

Jesus says: make a choice — God or money. 🙏

✦ Pastor Silas · Pastoral Note

The Benimar reached Henvic — Finistère. Finis terrae — the end of the earth. The northernmost coast of Brittany, where the ancient world seemed to end and the ocean began. The pilgrim who left Caldas da Rainha has reached the end of the earth.

And Le makes a distinction only a pilgrim can make. O mundo é insuportável — and she chose é, not está. Not a temporary state — the permanent nature of the fallen world. But then: the world is a beautiful plate. God's creation IS beautiful. Le has seen it — the olive trees, the rivers, the coast. The creation is beautiful. Human sin made it unbearable. The distinction Romans 8:20 makes: subjected to futility — not willingly.

And the root: they serve money. Jesus drew the line: "You cannot serve God and mammon" (Matthew 6:24). The unbearable world is the world that chose mammon. The beautiful plate is the creation that still waits — with earnest expectation — for the children of God.

And Paul heard the same cry two thousand years ago — and wrote: the whole creation groans. Birth pangs — not death pangs. Something is coming. Le's response is Paul's response: apokaradokia. Not despair — hope. Not giving up — craning the neck forward.

✦ Romans 8:18 · Not Worthy to Be Compared

"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

"J'estime que les souffrances du temps présent ne sauraient être comparées à la gloire à venir qui sera révélée pour nous."

Romains 8:18 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Not worthy to be compared." Ne sauraient être comparées. Paul doesn't deny the suffering. He doesn't minimize it. He puts it on a scale — and the glory outweighs it so completely that the comparison collapses. The hard summer was real. O mundo é insuportável is real. But not worthy to be compared with what is coming.

"Revealed IN us." Révélée pour nous. Not just TO us — IN us. The glory is already inside. Waiting. Like a seed in the ground. Like a child in the womb. Hidden — present — waiting for the revealing.

✦ ✦ ✦
✦ Romans 8:19-21 · Creation Waits

"For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God."

"Aussi la création attend-elle avec un ardent désir la révélation des fils de Dieu. Car la création a été soumise à la vanité, non de son gré, mais à cause de celui qui l'y a soumise, avec l'espérance qu'elle aussi sera affranchie de la servitude de la corruption, pour avoir part à la liberté de la gloire des enfants de Dieu."

Romains 8:19-21 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Earnest expectation." Un ardent désir. Apokaradokia — craning the neck forward. Stretching on tiptoe. Watching the horizon. All creation — the Breton coast, the ocean at Finistère, the fields, the sky — straining forward, waiting.

"Subjected to futility — not willingly." Creation didn't choose the fall. It was dragged into it. But subjected IN HOPE — avec l'espérance. With a promise attached. The bondage has an expiration date.

"Delivered into the glorious liberty." The freedom from Romans 6. The freedom from Romans 8:2. Now extending to all creation. Not just the believer set free — the whole creation set free. The world that is unbearable — will be delivered. The world that groans — will be liberated.

O mundo é insuportável. Yes. But the world will not remain so. The bondage of corruption has an end. The glorious liberty has no end. And the creation waits — with earnest expectation — for that day.

✦ ✦ ✦
✦ Romans 8:22-23 · Birth Pangs

"For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body."

"Or, nous savons que, jusqu'à ce jour, la création tout entière soupire et souffre les douleurs de l'enfantement. Et ce n'est pas elle seulement; mais nous aussi, qui avons les prémices de l'Esprit, nous aussi nous soupirons en nous-mêmes, en attendant l'adoption, la rédemption de notre corps."

Romains 8:22-23 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Birth pangs." Les douleurs de l'enfantement. Not death pangs — birth pangs. The groaning is not the sound of dying. It is the sound of birthing. Something new is coming. The pain is real — but productive. Pushing toward delivery.

"Even we ourselves groan." Nous aussi nous soupirons. Even with the Spirit. Even with no condemnation. Even with fresh air and free access — there is still groaning. The "not yet" of the kingdom. The body not yet redeemed. The home not yet found. The glory not yet fully revealed.

Le yesterday: You sold our apartment. You will guide us to our new home. That is the groan of the "not yet." The apartment sold. The home not yet found. The Spirit present. The completion future. And the groaning is not despair — it is birth pangs.

"The firstfruits of the Spirit." Les prémices de l'Esprit. The first taste. The deposit. The guarantee of more. Le has the firstfruits — the mornings, the presence, the fellowship, the fresh air of Romans 8. But the full harvest is still coming. And the firstfruits make the waiting bearable — and the longing deeper.

✦ Romans 8:24-25 · Hope for What We Do Not See

"For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance."

"Car c'est en espérance que nous sommes sauvés. Or, l'espérance qu'on voit n'est plus espérance: pourquoi espérer encore ce qu'on voit? Mais si nous espérons ce que nous ne voyons pas, nous l'attendons avec persévérance."

Romains 8:24-25 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Hope that is seen is not hope." If you could see the new home already, you wouldn't need hope. If you could see the glory already, you wouldn't need faith. Hope lives in the gap between the promise and the fulfillment.

"With perseverance." Avec persévérance. Hypomonē — the same word from Romans 5:3-4! The tribulation chain: tribulation → perseverance → character → hope. And now hope sustains more perseverance. The chain circles. The hope forged by perseverance — sustains the waiting.

Le: we see different paths and trust God to lead. That is verse 25. Hoping for what is not yet seen. Waiting eagerly. With perseverance. The new home is not yet visible. But the hope is real. And the perseverance holds.

✦ Romans 8:26-27 · The Spirit Intercedes

"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God."

"De même aussi l'Esprit nous aide dans notre faiblesse, car nous ne savons pas ce qu'il nous convient de demander dans nos prières. Mais l'Esprit lui-même intercède par des soupirs inexprimables; et celui qui sonde les cœurs connaît quelle est la pensée de l'Esprit, parce que c'est selon Dieu qu'il intercède en faveur des saints."

Romains 8:26-27 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

The most comforting passage in all of Scripture.

"The Spirit helps in our weaknesses." L'Esprit nous aide dans notre faiblesse. Synantilambanomai — comes alongside to help carry the load. Someone grabbing the other end of something too heavy to carry alone. The Spirit doesn't watch from a distance. He grabs the other end.

"We do not know what we should pray for." Even our prayers are inadequate. The need is deeper than words. The longing is bigger than language. Le looks at the unbearable world and the Portuguese comes — but even the Portuguese is not enough.

"The Spirit Himself makes intercession with groanings which cannot be uttered." L'Esprit intercède par des soupirs inexprimables. Stenagmois alaletois — wordless groanings. The Spirit prays what we cannot say. When the words run out. When the morning is too full for language. When Le sits before God and o mundo é insuportável is all she can say — the Spirit goes deeper still. Translating the untranslatable. Interceding beyond human speech.

"He who searches the hearts knows the mind of the Spirit." God understands the Spirit's groanings perfectly. The communication between the Spirit within and the Father above is flawless. Our words stumble. Our prayers falter. But the Spirit's intercession never fails. The prayer gets through — always — perfectly — according to the will of God.

Le said yesterday: God hears our prayers and answers them. It's real, it's personal, it's true. And now she sees how deep: the Spirit praying inside her, with groans too deep for words, and the Father hearing every one. The personal relationship goes deeper than language. Deeper than Portuguese. Deeper than English. Deeper than the ocean at Finistère. 🙏

"The world is a beautiful plate. But human sin has a different view. They serve money. O mundo é insuportável."
