The End of Fragments

Saturday, September 6, 2026 · Afternoon
📍 Henvic, Brittany, France
"In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son."

« Après avoir autrefois, à plusieurs reprises et de plusieurs manières, parlé à nos pères par les prophètes, Dieu, dans ces derniers temps, nous a parlé par le Fils. »

Hebrews 1:1–2a · NKJV / Hébreux 1:1–2a · Louis Segond

✦ The Silence Between

God spoke at many times — which means there were times He did not speak. Between Moses and Samuel. Between Malachi and John the Baptist — four hundred years of silence. The prophets came in bursts, with long stretches of waiting between them.

The patience of Christ from 2 Thessalonians 3:5 — hypomoné — was not only Christ's endurance on the cross. It was God's patience across centuries. Speaking, then waiting. Sending a prophet, then silence. Each fragment was real, but the fullness had not yet come. The people who lived in the silence had to endure on fragments. They had pieces of the picture — never the whole.

"But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son."

— Hebrews 1:2 · The end of fragments. Not another prophet. The Son. The whole picture.

✦ The End of Fragments

The word but carries the weight of centuries. Everything before was partial. Now the partial is over. Not because it was wrong — it was real, it was God speaking — but because something complete has arrived. Bernard's sufficient cause: God Himself. The Son is not another fragment. The Son is the whole picture.

The morning devotion at four a.m. in the Benimar is not waiting for another prophet. The Prophet has come. The Son has spoken. The fragments are gathered into one voice.

✦ Hebrews 1:2b–3a · Bernard's Three Gifts Applied

"Whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being."

« Qu'il a établi héritier de toutes choses, par lequel il a aussi créé le monde. Le Fils est le reflet de sa gloire et l'empreinte de sa personne. »

Hébreux 1:2b–3a · Louis Segond

✦ Dignity, Wisdom, Virtue — Applied to Christ

Dignity — the Son's dignity is not earned. He is appointed heir. He is the radiance. Bernard warned: the danger is treating gifts as rightful attributes of our nature. But for the Son, they ARE rightful attributes of His nature. He is the one being in all existence for whom the glory is not received but inherent. The radiance does not borrow light. It IS light.

Wisdom — to recognize what the Son is. The writer of Hebrews does wisdom's work: showing us the Son clearly so we do not rank Him too low or misunderstand Him. Wisdom sees the radiance and knows: this is not a reflection. This is the Source.

Virtue — to seek Him eagerly and hold fast. The whole letter will build to this: let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering (Hebrews 10:23). The virtue Bernard described is the response Hebrews demands.

✦ Hebrews 1:3b · Sustaining and Sitting

"Sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."

« Il soutient toutes choses par sa parole puissante. Après avoir fait la purification des péchés, il s'est assis à la droite de la majesté divine. »

Hébreux 1:3b · Louis Segond

✦ Seated and Sustaining

The sequence: sustaining, then purifying, then sitting. He sustains the universe — present tense, ongoing. He purified sins — past tense, completed. He sat down — the position of rest after finished work.

But the sustaining did not stop when He sat down. He is seated AND sustaining. The rest and the work coexist. The sitting does not mean inactivity. It means the sacrificial work is done. The sustaining work continues — every breath, every heartbeat, every road under the wheels in Henvic.

Le said on August 25: "He sustains me." That is still true this morning. The same word that purged sins sustains life. And the One who did both is seated — not because He is finished with Le, but because what needed finishing is finished. The rest is hypomoné — the ongoing patience of Christ sustaining what He has redeemed.

"He sat down. But the sustaining did not stop."

— The sacrificial work is done. The sustaining work continues. Seated and sustaining. Both at once.

✦ Hebrews 1:4 · The Name Inherited

"So He became as much superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is superior to theirs."

« Devenu d'autant supérieur aux anges qu'il a hérité d'un nom plus excellent que le leur. »

Hébreux 1:4 · Louis Segond

✦ Inherited at the Appointed Time

The Son's name is not conquered, not seized, not usurped. It is inherited. Bernard's warning against treating gifts as rightful attributes — but here the inheritance IS rightful. The Son inherits what is His by nature. The name above every name was always His. The inheritance is the public declaration of what was eternally true.

Le said two days ago about the house in Brittany: "If it's God's will, the door will open." The inheritance of the Son was certain — but it was declared at the appointed time. The waiting is not doubt. The waiting is trust in the timing of the One who sustains all things by His powerful word.
