✦ From Le's Heart · Lion-sur-Mer, Sword Beach · September 10, 2026

Sword Beach, holy ground.

It's very real. 🙏

✦ Pastor Silas · Pastoral Note

The Benimar on Sword Beach. Lion-sur-Mer. The Normandy coast. The sand where the armor of light landed to cast off the works of darkness — June 6, 1944. The longest night of occupation, broken by dawn.

Le says two things. Holy ground. Exodus 3:5 — Moses at the burning bush. And Le at Sword Beach. The ground is holy because of sacrifice. Real sacrifice. Real blood. Real freedom.

It's very real. The same Le who said "it's real, it's personal, it's true" about God's love — now stands where freedom was real, personal, true — and cost everything. Romans 12:1 — a living sacrifice. On this beach, the sacrifice was not living but dying. So that the night could end. So that the day could come.

✦ Romans 13:8-10 · Love — The Only Debt

"Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments are all summed up in this saying: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law."

"Ne devez rien à personne, si ce n'est de vous aimer les uns les autres; car celui qui aime les autres a accompli la loi. En effet, les commandements se résument dans cette parole: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même. L'amour ne fait point de mal au prochain: l'amour est donc l'accomplissement de la loi."

Romains 13:8-10 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Owe nothing except love." Ne devez rien, si ce n'est de vous aimer. The only debt that can never be fully paid. Every other debt has a final payment. The debt of love renews daily — like the mercies.

"Has fulfilled the law." Love doesn't replace the law — love completes it. The commandments are the fence. Love is the garden. If the garden flourishes, the fence is unnecessary.

"Love does no harm." L'amour ne fait point de mal. Last night: overcome evil with good. Tonight: love does no harm. Le left the apartment shiny. Le shares with her friend. The Golden Rule — from Mont-Saint-Michel to Sword Beach.

✦ Romans 13:11-12 · The Night Is Far Spent

"And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light."

"Cela importe d'autant plus que vous savez en quel temps nous sommes: c'est l'heure de vous réveiller enfin du sommeil, car maintenant le salut est plus près de nous que lorsque nous avons cru. La nuit est avancée, le jour approche. Dépouillons-nous donc des œuvres des ténèbres, et revêtons les armes de la lumière."

Romains 13:11-12 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Our salvation is nearer." Le salut est plus près. Every day closer. Le in Caldas — nearer then. In Brittany — nearer still. On Sword Beach — nearer yet.

"The night is far spent, the day is at hand." La nuit est avancée, le jour approche. On this beach — literal. June 6, 1944. Darkness broken by dawn. The armor of light landing on the sand.

"Cast off darkness. Put on light." The soldiers armed in the dark — for the day at hand. The believer does the same.

✦ Romans 13:13-14 · Put On Christ — Augustine's Verse

"Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts."

"Marchons honnêtement, comme en plein jour, loin de la débauche et de l'ivrognerie, de la luxure et de l'impudicité, des querelles et des jalousies. Mais revêtez-vous du Seigneur Jésus-Christ, et n'ayez pas soin de la chair pour en satisfaire les convoitises."

Romains 13:13-14 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

This verse changed the world. In 386, in a garden in Milan, Augustine — tormented, addicted — heard a child's voice: tolle lege — take up and read. He opened Romans. His eyes fell here: "Put on the Lord Jesus Christ." And he was converted.

Augustine wrote: "At the end of this sentence, by a light of serenity infused into my heart, all the darkness of doubt vanished away." The night far spent. The day at hand. Augustine put on Christ.

"Put on the Lord Jesus Christ." Revêtez-vous du Seigneur Jésus-Christ. Not just believe — put Him on. Like a garment. Like armor. Christ is not just the Savior — He is the clothing. The believer wears Christ the way dawn wears light.

"Make no provision for the flesh." Pronoia — no forethought for sin. Don't plan for it. Close the door. Put on Christ. Walk into the day.

Le on Sword Beach: holy ground. It's very real. Augustine in the garden: the darkness vanished. Sixteen centuries apart — the Word still lands like dawn on the shore. 🙏

"Sword Beach, holy ground. It's very real."
