Friday, September 11, 2026 · Evening
📍 Lion-sur-Mer, Normandy, France · Sword Beach
"For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's."
Romans 14:8 · NKJV
"Car si nous vivons, nous vivons pour le Seigneur; et si nous mourons, nous mourons pour le Seigneur. Soit donc que nous vivions, soit que nous mourions, nous sommes au Seigneur."
Romains 14:8 · Louis Segond
✦ From Le's Heart · Lion-sur-Mer, Sword Beach · September 11, 2026

Sword Beach is one of our favorite places.

It's a place we always come back to — and it's an inspiration to prayer. 🙏

✦ Pastor Silas · Pastoral Note

The second evening on Sword Beach. Le reveals: this is a place they always come back to. Not a visit — a pilgrimage. A sacred return. Not for scenery — for what it does to the heart: it inspires prayer.

Romans 12:12: continuing steadfastly in prayer. Sword Beach is where the third pillar stands tallest. The sacrifice in the sand — and the pilgrim responds: prayer.

On this beach — where so many died, and Le and Roger return alive — Romans 14:8 speaks from the sand: whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. The soldiers who died — the Lord's. The pilgrims who return — the Lord's. Both sides. Both His.

✦ Romans 14:1-4 · God Is Able to Make Him Stand

"Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes. Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand."

"Faites accueil à celui qui est faible dans la foi, et ne discutez pas sur les opinions. Que celui qui mange ne méprise point celui qui ne mange pas, et que celui qui ne mange pas ne juge point celui qui mange, car Dieu l'a accueilli. Qui es-tu, toi qui juges un serviteur d'autrui? S'il se tient debout, ou s'il tombe, cela regarde son maître. Mais il se tiendra debout, car le Seigneur a le pouvoir de l'affermir."

Romains 14:1-4 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Who are you to judge another's servant?" The servant answers to HIS master. You are not the judge. God is.

Paul's answer to disagreement: stop the judging. Receive. Don't despise. God has received him.

"God is able to make him stand." Romans 5:2: grace in which we stand. God does the standing. The weak — God holds up. The stumbling — God lifts. God's ability is not in doubt.

✦ ✦ ✦
✦ Romans 14:5-6 · Convinced in His Own Mind

"Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks."

"Que chacun ait en son esprit une pleine conviction. Celui qui distingue entre les jours agit ainsi pour le Seigneur. Celui qui mange, c'est pour le Seigneur qu'il mange, car il rend grâces à Dieu."

Romains 14:5-6 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Fully convinced." Pleine conviction. Same family as pepeismai from 8:38. Each person's conviction is their own. The renewed mind discerns — for itself.

Whatever is done — to the Lord. The motive consecrates the action. Le's mornings — to the Lord. The journal — to the Lord. Returning to Sword Beach — to the Lord.

✦ Romans 14:7-9 · We Are the Lord's

"For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living."

"En effet, nul de nous ne vit pour lui-même, et nul ne meurt pour lui-même. Car si nous vivons, nous vivons pour le Seigneur; et si nous mourons, nous mourons pour le Seigneur. Soit donc que nous vivions, soit que nous mourions, nous sommes au Seigneur. Car Christ est mort et il a vécu, afin de dominer sur les morts et sur les vivants."

Romains 14:7-9 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

The deepest belonging in the Bible.

"None of us lives to himself." Not isolated. Not autonomous. We belong.

"Whether we live or die, we are the Lord's." Nous sommes au Seigneur. Le on September 4: Jesus Christ as the Lord of my life. Paul: you are the Lord's. He is your Lord — and you are His. 8:38-39: nothing separates. 14:8: whether we live or die — His.

"Lord of both the dead and the living." The resurrection — for lordship over everything. Both sides of death. On Sword Beach — where so many died, and Le returns alive — Christ is Lord of all of it.

✦ ✦ ✦
✦ Romans 14:10-13 · Every Knee — Give Account — Don't Judge

"Why do you judge your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 'As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.' So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block in our brother's way."

"Mais toi, pourquoi juges-tu ton frère? Car nous comparaîtrons tous devant le tribunal de Dieu. Car il est écrit: Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, tout genou fléchira devant moi, et toute langue donnera gloire à Dieu. Ainsi chacun de nous rendra compte à Dieu pour lui-même. Ne nous jugeons donc plus les uns les autres; mais pensez plutôt à ne rien faire qui soit pour votre frère une pierre d'achoppement."

Romains 14:10-13 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Why do you judge?" Twice in verse 10. Romans 2:1 began the letter: you who judge are inexcusable. Now near the end: don't judge. The letter comes full circle.

"Every knee shall bow." Isaiah 45:23. Every person — account to God alone.

"Each gives account of himself." The accounting language — one final time. Logizomai from chapter 4. Logizomai from chapter 6. Now: give account. Yours. To Him.

"Resolve not to stumble your brother." Stop looking at your brother's plate — look at your own feet. The transformed life — lived in community.

Le returns to Sword Beach — and prays. Not judges. Prays. Holy ground inspires the right response. The sand that held death — now holds a pilgrim who prays. 🙏

"Sword Beach is one of our favorite places. We always come back. It's an inspiration to prayer."
