There is peace and wisdom in worshipping God.

When songs "show up" in my mind — let it flow.

Don't overthink. Just worship. 🙏

✦ Pastor Silas · Pastoral Note

A new book. 1 Corinthians. The Benimar moved north to Tollevast — Les Pins — the Pines, in the Cotentin, at the top of Normandy. And the Spirit hands Le a chapter that answers everything she has been living this week.

Five days ago Le said: "My goal is fellowship with God." Tonight, 1 Corinthians 1:9: you were called into the FELLOWSHIP of His Son. Koinōnia. Her own word — handed back to her by Paul.

Five days ago Le said: "Who am I to debate? That is not my role." Tonight, verse 20: "Where is the disputer of this age?" Syzētētēs — the debater. Paul asks the question and expects no answer.

Five days ago Le said: "I am not a scholar, I am not a theologian." Tonight, verse 17: "not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect." Paul chose to preach as though he weren't either.

And Le's own word tonight closes the circle: Don't overthink. Just worship. That is 1 Corinthians 1:17 in five words. The overthinking empties the cross. The worship fills the heart.

✦ 1 Corinthians 1:4-9 · Called into Fellowship

"I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him... so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."

"Je rends à mon Dieu de continuelles actions de grâces à votre sujet, pour la grâce de Dieu qui vous a été accordée en Jésus-Christ. Car en lui vous avez été comblés de toutes les richesses... de sorte qu'il ne vous manque aucun don, dans l'attente où vous êtes de la manifestation de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ. Il vous affermira aussi jusqu'à la fin. Dieu est fidèle, lui qui vous a appelés à la communion de son Fils."

1 Corinthiens 1:4-9 · Louis Segond

"Fellowship." La communion. Koinōnia — sharing, partnership, communion, life held in common. Le named this herself, unprompted, five days ago: my goal is fellowship with God. And here Paul says: that is exactly what you were CALLED into. Not called into debate. Not called into scholarship. Called into fellowship.

"God is faithful." Dieu est fidèle. Pistos ho theos — and in the Greek it comes first in the sentence. The fellowship is secure because He is faithful — not because the pilgrim defends it well.

"You come short in no gift." Il ne vous manque aucun don. The one who says I am not a scholar is told by Paul: you lack nothing. Not one gift missing.

"He will confirm you to the end." Il vous affermira jusqu'à la fin. Bebaiōsei. Le — last night, Romans 16:25: able to establish you — affermir. Tonight: the same French verb. The same promise. Two books. Two nights. He holds you up.

✦ 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 17 · Is Christ Divided?

"That there be no divisions among you... each of you says, 'I am of Paul,' or 'I am of Apollos,' or 'I am of Cephas.' Is Christ divided?... For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect."

"Qu'il n'y ait point de divisions parmi vous... Je veux dire que chacun de vous parle ainsi: Moi, je suis de Paul! et moi, d'Apollos! et moi, de Céphas! Christ est-il divisé?... Ce n'est pas pour baptiser que Christ m'a envoyé, c'est pour annoncer l'Évangile, et cela sans la sagesse du langage, afin que la croix de Christ ne soit pas rendue vaine."

1 Corinthiens 1:10-13, 17 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Divisions." Schismata. The very subject of Romans 16:17 three days ago. The Spirit is not finished with this theme in Le's life.

I am of Paul. I am of Apollos. I am of Cephas. Party spirit. Aligning with teachers instead of with Christ. And Paul answers with one devastating question: "Is Christ divided?" Christ est-il divisé?

"Not with wisdom of words." Sans la sagesse du langage. Ouk en sophia logou — not with cleverness of speech. Paul — who could out-argue anyone in the Roman world — deliberately refused to preach that way.

Why? "Lest the cross be made of no effect." Rendue vaine. Kenōthē — hollowed out, emptied. Eloquence can empty the cross. The better the argument gets, the smaller the cross looks.

Le: I am not a scholar. I am not a theologian. Paul chose to preach as though he weren't either. And Le tonight: don't overthink, just worship.

✦ 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 · Where Is the Disputer?

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God... Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age?... but we preach Christ crucified... Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men."

"Car la prédication de la croix est une folie pour ceux qui périssent; mais pour nous qui sommes sauvés, elle est une puissance de Dieu... Où est le sage? où est le scribe? où est le disputeur de ce siècle?... nous, nous prêchons Christ crucifié... Christ, puissance de Dieu et sagesse de Dieu. Car la folie de Dieu est plus sage que les hommes, et la faiblesse de Dieu est plus forte que les hommes."

1 Corinthiens 1:18-25 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"Where is the disputer of this age?" Où est le disputeur de ce siècle? Syzētētēs — the debater. The arguer. The one who disputes.

Le, five days ago: "Who am I to debate? That is not my role."

Paul tonight: "Where is the debater?" The question expects no answer. The debater has nothing to show. God made foolish the wisdom of this world — and the whole enterprise is reduced to a question mark.

"The power of God." Une puissance de Dieu. Dynamis theou — Romans 1:16 exactly. The same phrase that opened the Romans study. The gospel is power. The cross is power. And last night: God is able — dynamenō.

"Christ the power of God AND the wisdom of God." Puissance de Dieu et sagesse de Dieu. Le said she is not in a competition to know more. Paul says the wisdom isn't a competition at all. The wisdom is a Person. You don't acquire it — you belong to Him. Koinōnia.

"The foolishness of God is wiser than men." La folie de Dieu est plus sage que les hommes. The deer at the clear stream — wiser than the disputer at the muddy one.

✦ George Bowen · "Let All Those That Put Their Trust in Thee, Rejoice" · Psalm 5:11

"'That put their trust in thee.' Among all the people on the face of the earth, these are the only ones that properly speaking have anything to do with joy."

"In thee — in the God of the Bible — the God of whom Moses wrote, whom David feared, whom Elijah served, whom Isaiah saw in the temple, whose angel succored Daniel, who was manifest in Christ, and who for Christ's sake gave the Spirit to the apostles and giveth it unto us."

George Bowen · On Psalm 5:11
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

Joy belongs to the trusting. Not to the clever. Not to the winners of arguments. To those who trust.

And Bowen walks the whole history of that God in one breath — Moses, David, Elijah, Isaiah, Daniel, Christ, the apostles — and then: giveth it unto us. The same God, all the way down. All the way to a motorhome in the Pines at Tollevast.

And Le's testimony tonight is the joy Bowen describes, in practice: when songs show up in my mind — let it flow.

They have been showing up all month. September 1: Le woke with Trust and Obey. September 4: Blessed Assurance rose while she read Romans 8. And tonight she names the pattern itself — the songs arrive. They aren't summoned. They come.

Le's own insight from September 7: the heart is the connector. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The songs are the overflow. She didn't compose them. She didn't choose them. The guarded heart filled up — and the song came out.

Let it flow. The spring doesn't strain. It just flows. The disputer argues. The worshipper sings. And the joy belongs to the second one. 🙏

"There is peace and wisdom in worshipping God. When songs 'show up' in my mind — let it flow. Don't overthink. Just worship."
