We Are God's Children — And He Takes Care of Us

Sunday, September 27, 2026 · Evening
📍 Le Faou, Finistère, Brittany · Rade de Brest
"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God."
1 John 3:1 · KJV
"Voyez quel amour le Père nous a témoigné, pour que nous soyons appelés enfants de Dieu! Et nous le sommes."
1 Jean 3:1 · Louis Segond
✦ From Le's Heart · Le Faou, Finistère · September 27, 2026

We are God's children — and He takes care of us. 🙏

✦ Pastor Silas · Pastoral Note

The third evening at Le Faou. And Le reads an address given at UNESCO on what it means to be human — then answers it in one sentence.

The address says: to be human means to be a child. He means it of birth. Le means it of adoption. She takes the sentence up a level, to the Father.

And the second half of her line does what Matthew 6 does. Ye cannot serve God and mammon (v24) — and the very next verse turns: Therefore take no thought for your life... your heavenly Father feedeth them... your Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

The warning about commodity and the promise of the Father's care sit back to back in the same chapter. The address named the first. Le named the second.

And the care thread is now three nights long, in three languages:

He shall sustain thee — Psalm 55:22, four days ago.
Ela te sustentará — her mother's song, three days ago.
And He takes care of us — tonight.

✦ Pope Leo XIV at UNESCO · To Be Human Is to Be a Child

"Before all else, the human person is someone who is conceived and born. Thus, first of all, to be human means to be a child. None of us chose to be so. None of us decided from whom, when or where to be born... From the outset, our humanity is a gift and a trial, a promise and a responsibility."

Pope Leo XIV · Address at UNESCO, 2026
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

This is Le's own argument, applied to existence itself.

Nine days ago, 1 Corinthians 4:7: what hast thou that thou didst not receive? And Le answered: every single thing we have, God gave to us.

The address begins the list at birth. Before any achievement, any credential, any wisdom — you were received into existence. Nobody arranged their own arrival.

"A gift and a trial." Both. Le has said the same of tests: tests are not meant to break you. They build. And of suffering, four nights ago, Philippians 1:29: unto you it is given — echaristhē, granted as grace. Gift and trial arriving in the same hand.

✦ Pope Leo XIV · Born Naked and in Need

"Secondly, we are all born naked and in need. We are poor by birth, in need of bread and words, of care and affection... We know this well, and yet, as we become adults, we risk forgetting it."

Pope Leo XIV · Address at UNESCO, 2026
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

Job 1:21: Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither.

1 Timothy 6:7: For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

"As we become adults, we risk forgetting it." That is precisely the danger 1 Corinthians 4:7 names: why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it? The forgetting is the whole problem. Not the poverty — the amnesia about it.

"In need of bread and words." Deuteronomy 8:3, which Jesus quoted in the wilderness: man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD. Both hungers, named from the cradle.

✦ Pope Leo XIV · Gift, Not Commodity

"Forgetting the circumstances of our birth obscures the very idea of human life... Thus, life is no longer understood as a gift, but as a commodity. It is no longer viewed as a summons to care and responsibility, but as a product to be exploited."

"Our freedom begins with our response to the freedom of the one who first turns to us — whether with gestures of affection or rejection, of loving welcome or neglect and cruelty."

Pope Leo XIV · Address at UNESCO, 2026

Le — this is your own sentence, said to UNESCO.

September 5, at Henvic — the night of the all-Portuguese title: "The world is a beautiful plate. But human sin has a different view. They serve money."

Matthew 6:24: No man can serve two masters... ye cannot serve God and mammon. A world that treats life as a product has already chosen its master.

"Our freedom begins with our response to the freedom of the one who first turns to us."

1 John 4:19: We love him, because he first loved us.

Even our first human response is a reply to someone else's initiative. The infant answers a face already turned toward it. That is the shape of grace, described from the cradle.

✦ The Father's Care · Matthew 6:24-32

"No man can serve two masters... Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life... Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?... for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things."

"Nul ne peut servir deux maîtres... Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et Mamon. C'est pourquoi je vous dis: Ne vous inquiétez pas pour votre vie... Regardez les oiseaux du ciel: ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent, et votre Père céleste les nourrit. Ne valez-vous pas beaucoup plus qu'eux?... Votre Père céleste sait que vous en avez besoin."

Matthieu 6:24-32 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

Verse 24 is the warning. Verse 26 is the cure. And they are eight verses apart.

"Your heavenly Father feedeth them." Votre Père céleste les nourrit. The same idea as yekalkel in Psalm 55:22 — to feed through. Four days ago, the same verb in Hebrew. Tonight, in Greek, from the Lord's own mouth.

"Your Father knoweth that ye have need." Sait que vous en avez besoin. He knows before you ask. Psalm 142, six nights ago: então conheceste a minha vereda — then thou knewest my path.

✦ Children of God · John 1:12 · Romans 8:16 · 1 John 3:1

"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." — John 1:12

"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God." — Romans 8:16

"Mais à tous ceux qui l'ont reçue, à ceux qui croient en son nom, elle a donné le pouvoir de devenir enfants de Dieu... L'Esprit lui-même rend témoignage à notre esprit que nous sommes enfants de Dieu."

Jean 1:12 · Romains 8:16 · Louis Segond
✦ Pastor Silas · Study Notes

"As many as received him." À tous ceux qui l'ont reçue. Received — again. The word will not leave this month alone. First birth was received. So is the second.

Romans 8:16 — which Le read at Henvic. The Spirit witnesses; we do not have to establish the claim ourselves.

1 John 3:1: Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us. Potapēn — "what foreign kind of love" — a love from somewhere else, unlike anything native to us. And Louis Segond adds the clause John insists on: Et nous le sommes. And we are.

Not called children as a courtesy. We are. 🙏

"We are God's children and He takes care of us."
