Continue in prayer, and be watchful and thankful.
He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus. 🙏
The Benimar has crossed Brittany east to Le Vivier-sur-Mer, on the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel among the mussel beds. Three weeks ago Le was on the other side of that bay, at Beauvoir.
And tonight she sets the command and the promise side by side — which is exactly how Paul arranges them.
Her part: continue, watch, give thanks. His part: He will complete it.
Three nights ago, Philippians 2:12-13 said it in one breath: work out your own salvation... for it is God which worketh in you. The reason we can continue is that He is the one completing. Never the other way round.
And tonight's chapter says the same promise in different words: faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. Three letters now, one promise — Philippians, 1 Thessalonians, and Le's own line in Brittany on September 3: nothing is left undone with the Lord.
"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains... Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone."
"Persévérez dans la prière, veillez-y avec actions de grâces. Priez en même temps pour nous, afin que Dieu nous ouvre une porte pour la parole, en sorte que je puisse annoncer le mystère de Christ, pour lequel je suis dans les chaînes... Que votre parole soit toujours accompagnée de grâce, assaisonnée de sel, afin que vous sachiez comment il faut répondre à chacun."
Colossiens 4:2-6 · Louis Segond"That God may open a door." Afin que Dieu nous ouvre une porte.
Le — September 14, at Sword Beach: "God will open doors!" Paul, in chains, asks for exactly that.
And notice what he does not ask for. Not release. Not a lighter sentence. A door for the word. He wants the message out more than he wants himself out.
"Devote yourselves to prayer." Persévérez dans la prière. Proskartereite — the same verb as Romans 12:12, which Le read at Mont-Saint-Michel: continuing instant in prayer. She read it on one shore of this bay and meets it again on the other.
"Being watchful." Veillez-y. Grēgorountes — stay awake. The word from Gethsemane: could ye not watch with me one hour? Watchful prayer is not anxious prayer. It is prayer with the eyes open — expecting the door to be answered, and ready to notice when it opens.
"Seasoned with salt." Assaisonnée de sel. Not bland. Not bitter. Salt does not turn a dish into something else — it makes it taste like itself.
"May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones."
"Que le Seigneur augmente de plus en plus parmi vous, et à l'égard de tous, cette charité que nous avons nous-mêmes pour vous, afin d'affermir vos cœurs pour qu'ils soient irréprochables dans la sainteté devant Dieu notre Père, lors de l'avènement de notre Seigneur Jésus avec tous ses saints!"
1 Thessaloniciens 3:12-13 · Louis Segond"Increase and overflow." Augmente de plus en plus. Pleonasai kai perisseusai — two words for the same motion, stacked. Philippians 1:9, six nights ago: that your love may abound yet more and more. Paul prays the same prayer for two different churches.
"May he strengthen your hearts." Afin d'affermir vos cœurs. Again the verb is His. We are not asked to steady ourselves.
And note the direction of the love: for each other and for everyone else. Never only inward. Le, September 9: overcome evil with good — that is the mission.
"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
"Soyez toujours joyeux. Priez sans cesse. Rendez grâces en toutes choses, car c'est à votre égard la volonté de Dieu en Jésus-Christ."
1 Thessaloniciens 5:16-18 · Louis SegondLe — three nights ago you wrote: pay attention to God's will.
Here is the one place in Scripture that says this is the will of God and then lists it.
Rejoice. Pray. Give thanks. Three verbs. Not a hidden plan to decode. You can begin obeying God's will tonight, before you know a single detail of your circumstances.
And the three are the same three Le has been living: the songs that keep arriving (rejoice), the prayer at Sword Beach for an open door (pray), and to God be the glory forever and ever (give thanks).
"In every thing." En toutes choses. Not for every thing. In every thing. Smith, September 12: delivered from his gloom without being delivered from that which caused the gloom.
"Quench not the Spirit... Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it."
"N'éteignez pas l'Esprit... Mais examinez toutes choses; retenez ce qui est bon; abstenez-vous de toute espèce de mal. Que le Dieu de paix vous sanctifie lui-même tout entiers, et que tout votre être, l'esprit, l'âme et le corps, soit conservé irréprochable, lors de l'avènement de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ! Celui qui vous a appelés est fidèle, et c'est lui qui le fera."
1 Thessaloniciens 5:19-24 · Louis Segond"Prove all things." Examinez toutes choses. Dokimazete — the verb from Romans 12:2 and Philippians 1:10. Third appearance. Testing is not doubt. It is how love stays clear-eyed.
"The very God of peace." Le Dieu de paix. The third time this title has come up in a week — Romans 16:20, Philippians 4:9, and now here.
"Sanctify you wholly... your whole spirit and soul and body." Tout entiers... tout votre être. Holoteleis and holoklēron — two words both meaning entire, nothing left out, no part excluded. Paul will not let any corner of a person be exempt from God's care.
"Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it." C'est lui qui le fera. Hos kai poiēsei — four words. No conditions.
Le — this is Philippians 1:6, which was your whole note on September 25, said again in another letter. He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it. Same promise. Same God. Still underway. 🙏
"Continue in prayer and be watchful and thankful. He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus."
Le · Le Vivier-sur-Mer, Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel · October 1, 2026 · The command and the promise, side by side — and the second is why the first is possibleA Door for the Word
Le prayed it at Sword Beach: God will open doors. Paul asks the same from prison — and asks for the door, not the release.
Watchful
Grēgorountes — stay awake. Not anxious prayer. Prayer with the eyes open, ready to notice when the door opens.
This Is the Will of God
The one place Scripture says it and then lists it. Rejoice. Pray. Give thanks. No details required to begin.
He Will Do It
Hos kai poiēsei — four words, no conditions. Philippians 1:6 said again in another letter. Nothing is left undone.
