✦ From the End of the Earth
David prays from far away — not in the tabernacle, but at the edge. Distance does not silence the prayer. The cry reaches God from anywhere. Psalm 18 again: He heard my voice out of his temple. From Lubbock, from Caldas, from Normandy — the end of the earth is never too far.
"Lead me to the rock that is higher than I."
— Psalm 61:2 · Not a higher self but a higher Rock. Not strength to climb but a hand that leads.✦ The Rock That Is Higher Than I
David does not ask for strength to climb. He asks to be led. The rock is not his own height — it is God's. When the heart is overwhelmed, the answer is not a higher self. It is a higher Rock. Psalm 18:2: The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer.
"For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah."
Psalm 61:3–4 · KJVFour images of one protection. And the movement: thou hast been — past faithfulness — becomes I will abide — future trust. He did not change His mind. What He has been, He will be.
"For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name."
"So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows."
Psalm 61:5, 8 · KJVForever and daily, side by side. The praise is eternal, but it is lived one morning at a time. And the vows are heard — not someday, but now.
"I was singing this Psalm with Matthew Ward. Today, evidence that God hears our prayers from our hearts. So glad to have the heart of God as my connection."
Singing it is praying it twice — and today the cry was heard. "Thou, O God, hast heard my vows." The heart of God as the connection: no distance, no signal, no server needed. From the end of the earth, straight to Him.
From the End of the Earth
No distance silences the cry. The overwhelmed heart is heard wherever it prays.
Higher Than I
Not a higher self but a higher Rock. Not strength to climb but a hand that leads.
The Covert of Thy Wings
Shelter, tower, tabernacle, wings. What He has been, He will be. And He hears.
